Carrie Colbert
Founding + General PartnerWith her unique blend of skills and talents, Carrie Colbert thrives at the intersection of business acumen and creative endeavors. Her expertise and experience uniquely position her to empower female founders and entrepreneurs to accelerate their paths to success.
From a small town in the Texas panhandle, Carrie went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin at the top of her class with a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering with highest honors. In addition, she earned her Master of Business Administration from UT Austin while working fulltime. Furthermore, in 2013, she was named the Outstanding Young Engineering Graduate by the UT Cockrell School of Engineering, a highly esteemed and coveted award.
She had an accomplished 17-year career in the energy industry, including leadership positions in engineering, finance, investor relations, and strategic planning. The vast majority of her energy career was spent at Hilcorp Energy Company, one of the largest, most successful privately held energy companies. It was there at Hilcorp that Carrie learned invaluable entrepreneurial skills and lessons from the company’s founder.
Ready for a new challenge, Carrie exited the company in 2016 to begin her next professional chapter. She became a digital content creator in an effort to learn about the burgeoning influencer industry. In doing so, she connected online and in person at various events with a host of creative female entrepreneurs. Organically from those encounters, Carrie began investing in the female founder space and has done so extensively over the past four years with great success.
With those compelling results in mind, and with a direct pipeline of high-quality deal flow, Carrie chose to amplify her personal efforts by launching a venture capital fund with a mission to fund companies by women for women. In 2020, Carrie founded Curate Capital, a natural extension of her passion to help other women accelerate their paths to success.
As general partner, Carrie strategically sources and scopes deals, advises on macro strategic planning, marketing and social media tactical planning, financial planning, and much more. She is a sought-after speaker, speaking to thousands of businesswomen at conferences and events like Create & Cultivate, Mom 2.0 Summit, Alt Summit, General Assembly, and many more.
In addition, Carrie serves as treasurer for The University of Texas Cockrell School of Engineering executive advisory board. She is also an active member of Hope City in Houston. Most importantly, she is mom to her three-year-old daughter Elle.
